This is the Authors own copy inscribed to his mother, "For my Beloved Mother, from her son The Author, Dec. 18, 1902, Wm S. Gordon, there is also a small correction in the authors own hand in the preface, The book contains photographs of rural scenes and black characters written about in the book, taken by Robert Lancaster Jr., the book is about the scenes and life in Eastern Virginia as the author remembered them. The writing has been done in the old Negro Dialect, which comes with an explanation by the author. The illustration on page 132 has been reinforced in the gutter with old tape touching only the blank page edge. Illustration on page 44 is loose. 142 pages, green cloth with pictorial paste-down. This is a one-of-a-kind book. INSCIBED BY THE AUTHOR TO HIS MOTHER. With the exception of the above condition this book is complete, clean, and tight.
