About this Item
Quarto, 244pp., illustrated. A crisp, clean copy, near fine, with gentle fading to the board extremities. In a near fine dust jacket, with a few small smudges, and a closed tear and attendant creasing to the back panel. SIGNED and INSCRIBED by Petit on the title page: "To Anne Harrisson this story of hope and faith - lots of it! Aerially, Philippe Aug 7th, 2002." Petit, a daredevil high-wire acrobat, famously walked back and forth between the summits of the World Trade Center towers on a high-wire clandestinely rigged by he and his friends on August 7, 1974 (incidentally, 28 years to the day before this book was inscribed). The extraordinary feat was explored in the fantastic 2008 documentary "Man on Wire." Petit's feat has been rendered especially poignant in the context of 9/11, an aspect he explores at the end of this book, which was published less than one year after the attacks.
