FIRST EDITION, FIRST IMPRESSION. Presentation copy, inscribed on the title page by Kallman, "Happy Christmas (1952) To Osbert [Sitwell]" and signed by Kallman and Auden below their printed names which have been struck through. With single word corrections in Kallman's hand to 6 pages. Libretto only of Stravinsky's English-language opera inspired by Hogarth's suite of paintings and prints of the same title. The premiere was given at Teatro La Fenice in Venice on 11 September 1951. Octavo. Original yellow stiff paper wrappers, stapled covers now detached. Some light spotting, creasing and soiling to extremities, slight residue on upper cover from removed price sticker. Contents clean, a very good copy overall. [Bloomfield & Mendelson A33].
