Laid in the inside of the front cover is what appears to be a page from another book inscribed by the author as follows: "Compliments of | the author to | Mrs. Katherne Lucas | A.D. Snyder M.D." Beneath this is written in a different hand the following: "My pal the sweetest | Nurse known | Helen Kruse." Red cloth with gilt letters on the front cover and the spine. Some wear to extremities with a couple of corners just barely rubbed through, spine gilt dulled, cover gilt bright, else very good to near fine with no internal markings. No dust jacket. Alonzo DeMoines Snyder [b. 1871] was a physician among the Native Americans of Pine Ridge Reservation, South Dakota, and also other reservations. This is the story set in the 1880s of a cowboy, Jack Waite, working in the Badlands of South Dakota with his horse Starnose. Helen Kruse may be the wife of Peter Kruse, who appears in the 1940 US Census as living in Brookings, SD.
