[x], 230 pages of text. Original hardcover binding is moderately sunned/darkened on the spine, with minor shelfwear. Lacks the dustjacket. Inscribed by the author on the front endpaper clearly in blank ink "Carolyn Hartman in the name of the sizzies [signed] Carl Sandburg." The inscription relates to a passage on page 212 "Maybe you will hear the corn fairies going pla-sizzy." Small bump to the top corner of the latter half of the book, but the text is clean and unmarked. Contains a color frontispiece, eleven black and white full-page illustrations, and numerous small in-text illustrations in black and white, all by Maud and Miska Petersham. Carl Sandburg (1878-1967).
