Octavo, red cloth (hardcover), xviii, 647 pp + xi, 621 pp + xi, 559 pp + viii, 594 pp. Maps, plans, photos. Winner of the 1935 Pulitzer Prize for biography. Hurt, to whom the set is inscribed, had been a Member of the Virginia Assembly, argued cases before the U.S. Supreme Court, was a president of the Virginia Bankers' Association, and had served as a Trustee for the College of William and Mary. The set is in Very Good condition, with the front hinge of Volume I a bit shaken and the spines a bit dull; yet generally clean and tight.
