Signed copy of the Proud and the Meek, volume 3 of the Men of Goodwill, by Jules Romain. This copy signed by the author on the second front free endpaper. Hardcover in decorated cloth with reflective illustrated dustjacket. Generally an excellent copy except for a 3/4" tear at the top joint where the front board meets the spine, which nonetheless does not effect the overall strength of the binding. Cloth is otherwise lovely, with some light bumping at tips of corners, some very very minor fraying towards the head of the spine not effecting the binding, which is solid, square, and sound. The jacket is clean and intact overall, though with some heavy rubbing and scuffing visible against the shiny background, and with some chipping and and small closed tears, now in brodart. Vertical crease runs the full length of the interior front flap. Interior is clean and unmarked except for the signature as well as a bookplate on the front pastedown. Small stain on the rear pastedown and small sticker from Gotham Book Mart. The front free endpaper has picked up some ink from the front flap as well. Minor scuffing to the green-tinted top of the outer page block, but overall a nice copy of this signed 1st edition from 1934.
