Item description from seller

Corners bumped and rubbed, frt board shows some surface soil, hinge papers are fine. SIGNED by author on fep. Front flap of dj missing, large chips missing, jacket now in new mylar and book is protected. The religious problem of the day is not to find the Shepherd for an erring flock but to get the crowd to go where He is most likely to be. It is a very real problem. With varying success many have tried to solve it but none have done more than solve it for a few. The fundamental difficulty is not of the making of this day and age. The crowd inherits its timidity and its fear. People as a rule will neither listen nor read. The small number of those who are willing to do both humbly have usually been rewarded with faith. But the erring multitude have not been attracted. By tradition they fear the tent, the fire and the staff and avoid them. My ambition in writing Problem Island was to try a new experiment in attraction. I set out to tell, through one tale that only might be true, another tale that really is true. I wanted to provide for those most interested in the winning of intelligences to the truth a book that would have a bit more and a bit wider appeal for attention than those which, in spite of their manifest excellencies, nevertheless have succeeded in reaching only a few. Some authors write to make a living, some to become wealthy, some for fame, and some, not many, to help a cause which they accept as greater than anything else, even themselves. Amongst modern authors these latter have been classes as the lunatic fringe. I have always had an ambition to achieve the honor of being one of them. Problem Island I look upon as anew recommendation on an old application for membership. Francis C. Kelley Bishop of Oklahoma City and Tulsa.
