Untrimmed and almost completely unopened. Near Fine. First Edition. No. 40 of 110 copies (100 for sale), signed by Fielding Garrison. There was also a trade edition, in a cloth binding. With a gift inscription on a front flyleaf: "Dr. A. S. Warthin/ Christmas, 1926/ C. V. W./ K. A. W. A. S. Warthin was Aldred Scott Warthin, author of The Physician of the Dance of Death, among other books. "Although he is best known today for his groundbreaking research on the heritability of cancer, during his lifetime he was better known for other things. He studied the pathology of syphilis for 20 years and became the world's leading authority on the subject. He and his research associate developed the Warthin-Starry stain still used to demonstrate the presence of syphilis spirochetes. Some thought his most important work was his study of diseases of the reticuloendothelial system. He studied the effects of the chemical weapon mustard gas, about which he co-wrote a book in 1919" (Wikipedia). C. V. W. was Carl V. Weller. Warthin and Weller were colleagues at the University of Michigan. They co-authored this book: Aldred Scott WARTHIN, & Carl Vernon WELLER, The Medical Aspects of Mustard Gas Poisoning (1919).
