The original soundtrack album for the 1987 film The Princess Bride, with music composed, arranged, and produced by Mark Knopfler of Dire Straits, released by Warner Bros Records. Boldly signed on the front cover by the film’s director Rob Reiner in blue ink and by its star Cary Elwes in gold ink, Elwes adding Westley’s signature line, “As you wish!” Rob Reiner directed and co-produced The Princess Bride, bringing William Goldman’s beloved novel to the screen in what has become one of the most cherished films of its era. One of the most successful American directors of his generation, Reiner followed his breakthrough mockumentary This Is Spinal Tap with a run of hits including Stand By Me, When Harry Met Sally, Misery, and A Few Good Men, and had first become famous as an actor, winning two Emmy Awards as Michael “Meathead” Stivic on All in the Family. Cary Elwes starred as Westley, the farmhand turned dashing hero whose devotion to Buttercup drives the story and whose quiet refrain of “As you wish” becomes the film’s truest expression of love. The role made Elwes a lasting favorite, and he later chronicled the making of the film in his affectionate memoir, As You Wish: Inconceivable Tales from the Making of The Princess Bride. In near fine condition. Original record included. Rare and desirable signed. The Princess Bride began as William Goldman?s 1973 novel, framed as his abridgement of a fictitious classic by ?S. Morgenstern,? a fairy tale of the farm girl Buttercup and her true love Westley told with sly humor and high adventure. Goldman adapted his own book for Rob Reiner?s 1987 film, a modest success on release that grew into one of the most beloved and endlessly quoted movies of its generation. Its score was composed, arranged, and produced by Mark Knopfler, the guitarist and frontman of Dire Straits, whose film work also included Local Hero and Cal. The soundtrack?s song ?Storybook Love,? written and sung by Willy DeVille and arranged by Knopfler, was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Original Song.…
