Dated May 25, 1953 in New Jersey and signed by the author diagonally in blue fountain pen to the otherwise blank FFE. (No later dates showing.) Presented in its original DOUBLE dust jacket -- the separate inner jacket presenting 40-some additional comments on the book from the likes of Frank Chodorov of Human Events and Henry Hazlitt, edtor of the Freeman. Appears to be a compilation of Garrett booklets previously issued. The federal government set out to quite purposely render the dollar worthless. They succeeded. Who -- other than the government -- will loan money on a farm loan at a fixed rate of interest when the value of a dollar six months hence is unknown, but will be determined only by a number posted each day at the Treasury Department, derived no more transparently than a lottery number? No one. Yet Roosevelt had solemnly pledged to be bound by his 1932 platform, which promised "1) An immediate and drastic reduction of government expenditures by abolishing useless commissions and offices, consolidating departments and offices . . . to accomplish a saving of not less than 25 percent in the cost of Federal government. . . . "2. Maintenance of the national credit by a Federal budget annually balanced. . . . "3. A sound currency to be maintained at all hazards." He lied. Within months, he confiscated the people's gold. Sure, grandpa was paid 20 paper dollars an ounce when he had to turn it in. Today that ounce of gold is worth $3,600. Try demanding $3,600 worth of food and clothing for your $20 bill today. Try.
