A lovely association copy of this rare posthumous book of poetry, gifted to the son of the poet by his father with an endearing letter. The first and only edition of this posthumously published collection of poems fom Violet Spender, compiled by her husband following her death. Very scarce. In the publishers's original blue cloth binding. Portrait frontispiece. This is a lovely association copy, previously owned by the first born son of the poet and gifted by his father, Harold Spender. He wrote a preface for this work, writing of Violet: "The writer of these verses was snatched from us just as she seemed on the threshold of a fuler, happier life: and we are still sitting in the shadow of that eclipse". To the front free endpaper is inscribed "To Michael. from His Father" dated 19.21.22. There is also a loosely inserted letter from Harold, urging Michael "Keep it as a sacred possession, especially sacred to you, to whom some of the most beautiful of these poems are addressed". In the publishers's original blue cloth binding. Comprising poems such as 'My Son', 'Prayer for the Children during the War', 'Christmas, 1915', 'Lullaby to my Children in London' and 'The Angel of Death'. In the publishers's original blue cloth binding. Externally, smart, with rubbing and bumping to the spine. White mark to the rear board. Internally, firmly bound with bright and clean pages. Minor offsetting to the endpapers and the poet's husband's inscription to the front free endpaper. Very Good.…
