The first edition in English. Presentation copy, inscribed by the translator, Robert Singleton Garnett, on the front flyleaf. First published in 1867, this was one of Dumas' final novels, set during the Austro-Prussian War of 1866. Octavo: xv, [1], 303, [1], 48 p. Original green cloth binding, with gilt and black stamping. Previous owner's ink signature to the front flyleaf. Some light foxing to the fore-edge, with a bit of mild wear to the corners and tips; otherwise very good.
