The author, Manager of Soci�t� Le Nickel and its smelting plant in Noum�a, was captured by the German raider Orion, after the sinking of the nickel ore carrier Notou off New Caledonia, on 16 August 1940, and landed in Bordeaux, France by the Ermland, on 4th April 1941.
