Item description from seller

Third Printing of each of the three volumes, and each volume is INSCRIBED and SIGNED by the author on the front endpaper to Gerald Stram, the grandson of his third wife, actress Carlotta Monterey. Issued without dustwrappers, the three books are housed in their original slipcase. The first volume has a superb, lengthy inscription: "To Gerald/with my deepest hopes/that your life to come/may be one of hard/work at something you love/better than yourself in/short, may you find/happiness!/As ever, love from/your step-grandfather/Eugene O'Neill/Feb. 1950." The other two volumes are more simply INSCRIBED "To Gerald" and SIGNED "Step-grandfather O'Neill." Due to a Parkinson's-like tremor, O'Neill was able to write only with great difficulty for the last decade of his life until his death in 1953. Books inscribed by O'Neill at this late date are scarce. Loosely laid in are small pieces of ephemera including an O'Neill bookplate, a SIGNED Eugene O'Neill clipped return address from an envelope, and a small calling card where O'Neill has crossed out his printed name and written "Love!/Gene." Near Fine in an intact, Good slipcase.
