First edition of Cooper's first short story collection, with a foreword by Alice Walker - this copy inscribed by Walker to her editor on THE COLOR PURPLE, John Ferrone. J. California Cooper credits Walker for encouraging her transition from plays to short stories. Walker and her partner Robert Allen established the Wild Tree Press in 1984, and Walker notes in her foreword that it "could have been created especially for A PIECE OF MINE." 8.5'' x 5.5''. Original black pictorial wrappers. xvi, 124 pages. Inscribed by Walker on half-title: "To John + 'Johannes,' love, Alice[.]" Light wear to wrappers, small bump to spine edge. Tight.
