The Legal Classics Library edition of Justice Ginsburg's collected writings and speeches, privately printed for the members of the Library and accompanied by a warm autograph note signed by her to the doorman of the New York apartment building where her family lived. Octavo, bound in full blue leather, the front panel elaborately stamped in gilt with a decorative border and central medallion, gilt titles and decoration to the spine, all edges gilt, marbled endpapers, illustrated. In fine condition, silk ribbon bound in. Written with Mary Hartnett and Wendy W. Williams. Accompanied by an autograph note signed by Ruth Bader Ginsburg as Justice of the Supreme Court to Matthew Curran. One page on her personal embossed Supreme Court stationery headed "Chambers of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg," measuring 5 inches by 3.5 inches, with the matching envelope. The note reads in full, "August 1994 For Matthew Curran Cheers on becoming a citizen, and appreciation for the special attention you paid to James when he was very young, Ruth Bader Ginsburg." The recipient, Matthew Curran, emigrated from Ireland to the United States at the age of twenty-two and was the doorman at the Imperial House in New York, where the Ginsburgs lived while she taught civil procedure at Columbia Law School, one of the very few women then teaching in the field. James is her son, James Ginsburg, born in 1965 and later the founder of the Chicago classical label Cedille Records. She wrote a year into her tenure on the Court to congratulate Curran on his citizenship. The note is in fine condition and laid in. My Own Words (2016) was the first book from Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg since her appointment to the Supreme Court, a selection of her writings and speeches from her school days onward, introduced and arranged with her authorized biographers Mary Hartnett and Wendy W. Williams. It ranges from a column she wrote at thirteen to her briefs and arguments in the gender discrimination cases of the 1970s, her tributes to colleagues and to her husband Martin, and her reflections on the Court, the law and the place of dissent, and it became a New York Times bestseller. Ginsburg (1933-2020) argued six landmark sex discrimination cases before the Supreme Court as director of the ACLU's Women's Rights Project, became the first tenured woman on the faculty of Columbia Law School in 1972, served on the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit from 1980, and was appointed to the Supreme Court by President Clinton in 1993, the second woman to serve on it.…
