Ink drawing. Sheet measures 13" x 16". Fine with a tiny bit of wear at the edges. Inscribed to *Simple French Food* book designer Harry and his wife beneath the drawing: "for Harry + Kathleen Ford. R. Olney." Beneath the name "Ford" is the reduction size ("5 5/8"). A charming illustration for Olney's book *Simple French Food*, published, with an introduction by James Beard, by Atheneum in 1974. The illustration was published in the "Miscellaneous Thoughts" section of the Preface (p.40 in the 30th Anniversary edition). Olney's early books on simple French cuisine had a major impact on American nouvelle cuisine and California cuisine, and he counted Alice Waters among his fans.
