An incredible association/presentation copy signed to a friend and known figure. John Egerton was known for his writings about the Civil Right Movement, Southern food, the South and Southern History. When The Orchard Keeper was published in 1965, Egerton began work in Nashville, TN as a staff writer for the Southern Education Report magazine and through 1971 would also work for its successor magazine, Race Relations Reporter. He would win the Robert F. Kennedy Book Award for his 1994 book, Speak Now Against the Day. He Would also co-found the Southern Foodways Alliance and author many books about Southern cuisine both as a way to understand culture and to reconcile racial relations. A really nice association. Book in VG or slightly better with typical scuffing and bumping to corners, topstain faded, boards ever so slightly bowed. Some scuffing with showthrough not uncommon to this volume. Jacket VG or better and though price clipped, retains bright red lettering to spine and front panel. Some rubbing and soiling. A beautiful, signed copy of this book with a really nice association.
