This is an original water color drawing hand SIGNED by the interior decorator David Mode Payne (1907-1985); painted on black paper, the back of the paper has some small tap where it is matted; painted probably around 1950s; paper size: 12 x 9in; image is of an opera singer on a large open stage, with a conductor in orchestra pit; David Payne's drawing of interiors are in numerous institutions; comes with a Wildenstein Gallery's program of his 1953 show titled" A Show of Rooms.paintings by David Payne" (this particular drawing is not in the program), the program list 22 paintings (no images.just text); this drawing is matted; there is tap on back that has browned with age, but the front of the drawing is in VERY GOOD COND.
