Item description from seller

First edition, first printing. Inscribed to Hall of Famer Rogers Hornsby on front wrapper: "To Rogers Hornsby / My esteemed friend / [illegible]". Publisher's wrappers with portraits of Miller Huggins and Rogers Hornsby to front wrapper, lettered in red and blue. Very good unscored program, with some closed tears to edges of front wrapper, clear-tape reinforcement to closed tears and along spine, crease to bottom corner of front wrapper, light soiling to front wrapper. Overall, Rogers Hornsby's personal copy of this exceedingly scarce program. In the 1926 World Series, the St. Louis Cardinals upset the heavily favored New York Yankees in seven games to win their first ever World Series title. Both teams featured a host of all-time greats, including Hornsby, Jim Bottomley, and Grover Cleveland Alexander for the Cardinals, and Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, and Tony Lazzeri for the Yankees. Widely considered the best second basemen, and one of the best hitters, of all-time, Rogers Hornsby (1896-1963) spent most of his career with the St. Louis Cardinals. He won AL MVP twice (1925, 1929) and the Triple Crown twice (1922, 1925). His lifetime batting average of .358 is third only to Ty Cobb and Oscar Charleston, and his 1924 batting average of .424 is the highest of the modern era (post-1900). As the Cardinals' player-manager in 1926, Hornsby was arguably the most important factor in the Cardinals pulling off their World Series victory against the Yankees. Hornsby himself made the final out in Game 7 of the 1926 World Series, tagging Babe Ruth as he attempted to steal second base. Hornsby was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1942, and the All-Century Team in 1999.…
