Item description from seller

Small 8vo. Pp. 38. Green cloth lettered in gilt. In dust jacket with $3.50 price present; slightest toning to spine panel, minor rubbing to front panel. Inscribed by the author on the title-page "to James Freedman" Solzhenitsyn recieved the Nobel Prize in 1970. An important association copy inscribed by Solzhenitsyn to James Freedman, president of Dartmouth (1987-1998). Solzhenitsyn's USSR citizenship, revoked in 1974, was restored in 1990. In 1991, while in exile in Vermont, he was invited by Freedman to Dartmouth to receive an honorary degree on June 9. That newsworthy event marked the Russian dissident's return to international recognition, and indeed a thawing of the decades-old Cold War.Dust jacket is now housed in a clear, removable archival protector.
