Add to basketSmall 4to. Self-cover offprint. 8pp. Illustrations. Near fine. Offprint of this short story from the February 8, 1953 issue (Volume 15, Number 2) of "'teens" magazine. Four-column format, with partly-colored line drawings and other articles interspersed. Wilburr's story fills the front page, and along the top of this she has typed a nice 3-line inscription to Arnold Gates "with the compliments and good wishes of the author," signing just above the story's title a large (5") full signature in thick black ink. Accompanied by a meaty content Typed Letter Signed from her, 1p, 8½" X 11", Escondido, CA, 25 August 1953. Same recipient. Near fine. Lengthy missive relating the complex publishing history of "The Nice Stone" and her Lincoln tale "Abe and Austen." As this convoluted publishing history fills the page top to bottom and practically margin to margin, her enormous 7" Full signature ("Harriette Wilburr Porter") runs vertically up the left edge. Wilburr (1891-?) penned numerous children's and juvenile titles such as "A Year with the Poets and Birds" (1912), "Friday Afternoon Entertainments" (1914), "Bird Gossip" (1920), "A Stack of Black Cats" (1922) and "The Gang Goes to Mill" (1924). Gates (1914-93) was a noted Lincoln and Civil War scholar. Unusual in this format.
