Presented are a cross section of indigenous chracters, from the Barrymores of Broadway to John L. Sullivan, all portrayed with true to the mark realism. Hope, humor and gentility flourished in the New York David Carroll knew; A FEAST OF MEMORIES brings them back. Carroll is a Memphis author with good reason to rhapsodize about New York. His first job in the city was working as a prep cook for a dormitory steam table; his last, the presidency of a cotton mill. a trasnplanted South Carolina attorney, Carroll arrived in new York in the 1920s and lived and worked there off and on through the mid-1960s. He composed the 68 verses in this collection based on his remembrances of four decades in the city that never sleeps. "I studied every aspect of it except the jail," he says. Carroll is the fourth generation of a Bennettsville, S. C. family to become an author.
