A scarce signed and dated copy of the 1983 edition of John Michell's classic work on megalithic science, earth mysteries and ancient knowledge. This completely revised edition offers a wide-ranging exploration of prehistoric science, sacred geometry, ancient systems of measurement and the relationship between humanity, the landscape and the cosmos. Drawing on archaeology, astronomy, geology and related disciplines, Michell investigates the possibility that ancient civilisations possessed a sophisticated understanding of natural order and the Earth's underlying patterns and energies. Beautifully written and thought-provoking, this influential work remains a landmark in the literature of earth mysteries and alternative interpretations of ancient science. Signed and dated by John Michell: The front free endpaper bears Michell's distinctive, elegant signature, dated 23 July 1983. The book was published on 18 July 1983, placing the inscription just five days after publication. This contemporary dating is a particularly appealing feature for collectors, and the signed example offers an added dimension of interest beyond an ordinary copy. Condition: Very good. The pages are clean, unmarked and uncreased, with no inscriptions or notes apart from Michell's own signature and date. All 82 illustrations are present and intact. The original dust jacket is in very good condition, unclipped, with only minor age-related wear and rubbing. The binding is sound, although there is a slight lean and some give. Overall, a very attractive copy of an important work, made particularly collectible by the author's contemporary signature and date. Please study the photographs carefully, as they form part of the description. All images show the actual book offered for sale; we never use stock photographs. Additional photographs are available on request, and we are always happy to answer any questions.
