(1899) ASSOCIATION COPY; this copy was presented to "the President's Office" (presumably of a college or University) by American author, critic, & essayist, Logan Pearsall Smith (books include "The Youth of Parnassus, and other stories" & the autobiography, "Unforgotten Years"); Smith signed this copy at the top of the front board, using his birth name, "Lloyd Logan Smith," which he changed to Logan Pearsall Smith before his literary career took off; presentation inscription is dated 1900; bottom & fore edge deckled; 1st ed; a pencil notation on the ffep reads "100 copies," although I can find no other mention of this limitation; [xv] + 11 full-page plates of handwriting examples; ACCEPTABLE/GOOD white cloth spine over black-stamped light brown paper-lined boards; front board detached; minor wear to edges & extrems; softening & light fraying to spine ends; corners bumped and chipped; rubbing & faint soiling to spine and boards; tanning to free endpapers; ink inscription on front boa.
