1946. First edition. viii, 123pp., colour frontispiece, 24 black and white illustrations and diagrams, and a map. New Cumnock is a village in East Ayrshire, Scotland. It expanded during the coal-mining era from the late 18th century, and mining remained its key industry until its pits were shut in the 1960s. This book is a record of the growth of the New Cumnock Collieries since the first surface operations in the latter part of the 18th century. The book is bound in the original black cloth covered bevelled boards with gold titling on the spine. The case of the book is in excellent condition with light shelf wear to the boards and bumping to the bottom of the spine. The contents are tight and clean and the title-page has been flat signed by the author. PLEASE NOTE: This is a large and heavy book and extra postage will be required for delivery outside the UK.
