1st Printing. Believed to be a presentation copy, INSCRIBED and SIGNED by the author on the front endpaper: "To George T. ________(?) with love Edward" Moderate damage at bottom of dustjacket spine and scuffing to bottom corners elsewise a bright, unmarked, tight copy in a MYLAR PROTECTIVE COVER. "Native Sons" is a significant contribution not only to literary history but to the study of American society as a whole. Here are the influences exerted by such factors as life in the South, migration, existence in the urban ghetto, interracial love, the Negro church, the historical perspective, the new nationalism, and the Negro author as expatriate. With understanding and precision, Dr. Margolies reveals the significance of modern American Negro writing in terms of what it tells us about the quality of American life, white as well as black. The author examines the work of a number of authors, including Richard Wright, James Baldwin, Malcolm X, Chester Himes, and LeRoi Jones." 210 pages. LF5. …
