A smart presentation copy of this autobiographical travel work regarding Count Gleichen's travels to Addis Ababa, complete with a folding map. Detailing a mission to Addis Abbaba and back, including spending time at Harrar, Gildessa, Zeila and finally his impressions of Addis Abbaba, the people, language and markets.Written by Lord Edward Gleichen (1863-1937), a British soldier and courtier. The son of Queen Victoria's half-nephew, he served as a Page of Honour to the Queen for five years and became a Major General of the Grenadier Guards. He wrote a number of travel works detailing his time abroad, such as 'With the Camel Corps up the Nile', and 'A Guardsman's Memories'.Inscribed by the author to J. L. Harrington, with the author's compliments. Harrington was the British district officer at Zeila.A first edition of this work.Illustrated with photographs and illustrations by the author.With thirty-two pages of publisher's advertisements to the rear.Containing one folding map of Abyssinia to the rear of the work; lacking the second map.An excellent copy of this fascinating travel work, inscribed by the author. In the publisher's original full cloth binding. Externally with just a little wear to the head and tail of the spine and extremities. Author's inscription to the half title page. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean. Very Good.
