Add to basketAlthough born and raised in New Zealand, Roberta Elliott seems to have spent much of her time in Europe and her few published works - all excellent children's books - have largely European settings. "The Miracle" was her second book and is set in Portugal. Before this was "Kirsti and Ruski" (re-named "Kirsti and the Bear" in the U.S.); and it was followed by "The Country Boy" (1967); "The Day of the Cats" (1968) and "A Lump of Gold" (1970). The illustrations, and dust jacket art, here are quite impressive - looking a little Charles Keeping-ish. This copy is inscribed by the author on front endpaper: "To the two D's - the kind of Americans to inspire a better book, & Forrest. With love from Roberta. Firenze 1966". ("Firenze", of course, being Florence, Italy - I told you she spent time in Europe!) Spine ends very slightly softened, and top corners just slightly bumped, otherwise a fine copy in very good, slightly browned dust jacket with minor wear at extremities.
