1st edn. Paperback. 119pp. B/w portrait frontispiece. Buff thin card covers with black titles to front. SIGNED to front free endpaper "From the Author. Piraeus, Nov 1945". Otherwise uninscribed. Slight tanning/soiling to covers. Internally clean and tight. From what I can gather this is an account of life as an interpreter with the British Army (The 9th East Lancs?) in the Salonica campaign from the landings in 1915 to demob in 1918. "The present work is totally unlike the ones that have preceded it. It proceeds from a nonentity and has no bearing whatever on the horrors of the war. Moreover, it is devoid of elegance of stvle. which must be attributed to the fact that it has been compiled by an interpreter and the author would take no offence should it be considered by his readers as a literary impertinence, as it is a commonplace truth that the only qualification of an interpreter in the Britich Army is ignorance of languages".
