Recalling times when the great trading companies were pushing boundaries and were often more important than the governments, Birch's wonderful book tells of his initial years with the Hudson's Bay Company in Canada; then his career, mostly in Sierra Leone, serving the United Africa Company (UAC); interspersed with war service. SIGNED by his widow Daphne (who designed the cover) on title page. Minor scratching on rear cover, else an excellent clean copy.
