Small 8vo 7½" - 8" tall; 266 pages; A collection of pieces written for the newspapers and monthlies by Evans. Notable subjects/interviews include Dickens, Bulwer, Garrison, Ward, Grant et. al. Inscribed by the author to the larger-than-life business personality and social activist, William O McDowell. Inscription dated 1888. Original blue cloth with ornate blind stamped border designs to cover and fine gilt stamped titles to cover and spine. Very snugly bound with just light rub to the original cloth covers at edges and spine ends. An unusual collection of journalistic pieces touching on all aspects of social and political issues of the latter 19th century.
