His assignments include the war in Lebanon in 1982, AIDS in Africa, and the plight of neglected children in post-communist Albania. Nearer home he assists in the rescue of snowbound train passengers in the arctic Scotland of 1978, and witnesses the aftermath of the IRA bombings in Brighton and inner-city riots in Brixton and Toxteth.

About the Author

Bill Hamilton started his 50-year journalistic career as a trainee reporter on the Fife Herald. He began broadcasting as a reporter on Tyne Tees TV, then on BBC Radio Sport before becoming a newsreader on Border TV. In 1973 he began presenting BBC Scotland s flagship news programme Reporting Scotland, then became the first news editor on Radio Tees.

Moving to London he joined BBC TV News. He was the first TV journalist to enter post-communist Albania, and his exclusive reports on the appalling suffering of children there sparked a huge international aid appeal and won him the Order of Mother Teresa.

Bill is also an Association Football referee and has officiated at over 2,000 matches in 50 seasons. He is currently based in St Albans.
