Man Was Meant To Be Free. Selected Statements of Governor Harold E. Stassen 1940-1951. Edited and with a foreword by Amos J. Peaslee. Published by Doubleday & Company, Inc., Garden City, New York, 1951. 8vo. xiv. 460pp. First thus. Very good book in very good minus dust jacket. Inscribed by Stassen on the half title-page. Light gray cloth covered boards with gilt and dark blue lettering on spine. Boards are clean. Spine has a shallow vertical crease down the center. External page edges are age-toned and with a few light scuffs. Text pages are also age-toned. No internal marks or tears. Text block is sound. Dust jacket is scuffed overall, white-background is lightly yellowed. Right front fore-edge of front panel has a 2 3/4" closed vertical tear from the upper corner and an adjacent 3/4" horizontal closed tear, both with archival tape repairs on the reverse. Upper edge of back jacket panel has a 1/2" closed vertical tear and with adjacent diagonal creases to the upper edge. Front corner at head of jacket spine has a 3/8" closed vertical tear along the fold. Upper left front corner has a 1 1/4" shallow diagonal crease into the front panel. Back corner at tail of spine has a 5/8" closed vertical tear along the back fold and with several adjacent creases and rubs. Lower right corner of front panel has a1/4" closed diagonal tear and adjacent rubs. Upper and lower edges have several small chips. All inside flap corners have small uniform clips.
