Add to basketBlue cloth boards with gilt lettering for title and white lettering for author and publisher on both front and spine. Some toning near head of spine. Small dent on fore-edge of back board. Pictorial dust jacket wrapped in mylar. Corners clipped, though price still readable. Very small tear near top of fore-edge. A few small blue marks on front and back. Binding is very tight. Top edge of text appears to have been stained blue, though the color has faded. Text block is clean except for a note from previous owner in pen on page 14. Author signature on half-title page. Includes Stewart's original heavily annotated manuscript for chapter three with a signed letter to the previous owner gifting the manuscript. Manuscript and letter are contained in an elegant tri-fold binder with marble paper inside the boards. In this imaginative anthropological work, Stewart tells the story of humankind from prehistory to modern civilization. More creative than scientific, this unique book evokes the human drama in the history of our species. George Rippey Stewart, a longtime English Professor at UC Berkeley, published 28 books of fiction and nonfiction between 1930 and his death in 1980. He was known for his multi-disciplinary approach, combining insights from geography, history, anthropology, and ecology with masterful storytelling. Despite penning multiple best-sellers, Stewart has remained relatively obscure, though his influence is still felt across various genres.
