First edition. Hardback. 26.5 × 21.5cm, 104pp. Text in German and English. A unique and exceptional copy containing an original artist intervention. This volume features a significant, early example of Scottish conceptual artist Robert Montgomery's signature billboard-style poetry. On page 7, Montgomery has hand-written a 10-line poem in thick black wax crayon, utilizing his distinct romanticized, elegiac meter. The inscription is signed "ROB - 14-MAY." vertically along the left-hand margin. The text reads: "IN EVERY DRINK / YOU CAN / MAKE HISTORY / LIKE A PRINCE / YOU HOST / EVERY MEMORY / DAWN'S DEVINE / LEGACY / OUR NIGHT TOGETHER / HEARTFELT." The handwriting perfectly mirrors the exact structural forms, high-bar letter crossings, and architectural cadence he utilizes for his famous large-scale public text installations and painted canvases. A magnificent cross-over object combining Roni Horn's conceptual space with Montgomery's physical studio hand. From a recent acquisition of books from the personal library of Robert Montgomery and Greta Bellamacina; please see our website for further books from this collection. Published on the occasion of Horn's major retrospective exhibition held at Kunsthalle Basel (June 10 - August 27, 1995) and the Kestner Gesellschaft in Hannover (September 9 - October 29, 1995). It documents fifteen years of her sculptural and installation work, including works in lead, gold, and rubber. Illustrated with 26 colour plates. Condition: The book is in very good condition bar some very light spotting to the pages' top edge. The pages are clean and the inner binding secure. Robert Montgomery's work has some offsetting and crayon specks to the facing page but the text remains crisp and clear.…
