Item description from seller

(London: W. & R. Chambers 1934). First UK Edition. INSCRIBED BY THE AUTHOR. Publisher's pale turquoise blue with gilt lettering to the spine and front board. Boards exceptionally bright and clean. Spine tips soft. A slightly dusty top-edge. Mild foxing to the page block. In the VERY RARE dustwrapper priced 3/6 net to the inside flap (as called for). The dustwrapper is complete with just a hint of wear/minor chipping to the head and tail of the spine and with a crease to the left-hand edge of the front panel. Inscribed by the Author to the front free end-paper: To/ Miss Slack,/ in remembrance of/ Borrowdale & Crummock/ & with all best wishes/ for a happy Christmas/ & New Year,/ from/ Elsie J. Oxenham". A rare title. Overall a near fine copy in like dustwrapper. "Threatened with the loss of their childhood home in the Lake District, Rachel and Damaris are determined to make their own way in the world, and in particular not to ask any help from the cousin who hasn't come near the family since she inherited a fortune. Why has Maidlin not helped them before, and can she help them now?" (GoodReads). NB: This is a true first edition and not a later reprint by the Oxenham Society. Photographs/scans available upon request.…
