The original Millennium trilogy [The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, The Girl who Played with Fire, and The Girl who Kicked the Hornet's Nest] were all published posthumously following Stieg Larssons sudden death from a heart attack in 2004. He had planned on 10 installments but had only written 3 at the time of his passing. The next three installments of the Millennium Series [The Girl in the Spider's Web, The Girl who Takes an Eye for an Eye, and The Girl who Lived Twice] were published by Norstedts Förlag (original publisher of the Millenium Trilogy) who commissioned David Lagercrantz, an already internationally known author and journalist. The most recent installment [The Girl in the Eagle's Talons] is the first book in an upcoming trilogy written by Karin Smirnoff who has most recently inherited the continuation of the series. Karl Stig-Erland "Steig" Larsson was a Swedish author, journalist, and left-wing activist best known for writing the Millennium Trilogy before his sudden passing at age 50 from a heart attack. Larsson had a passion for writing from youth, gifted a typewriter at age 12, Larsson's first works were short sci-fi stories published in fanzines he both published and edited. Following his conscription into the army, Larsson would enter the world of journalism and left-wing activism, joining the Communist Workers League and publishing many articles against right-wing and racist organizations, the Sweden Democrats party being a particular focus of his, resulting in Larsson receiving regular death threats. Larsson's unexpected passing in 2004 saw his estate go to his brother and father, despite a later will stipulating it should go to the Umeå branch of the CWL. Larsson's posthumous success saw him become the second-bestselling-fiction author in 2008, by 2015 the series having sold over 80 million copies. 1383064. Shelved Dupont Bookstore.
