About this Item
First edition inscribed by author Valerie Mulvin. Nearly square quarto hardcover in cloth boards with gilt stamped graphic to front and titling to spine. Includes dust jacket. Clean, internally unmarked, well bound. Dust jacket, now in protective covering, with minor rubbing to edges and joints - bit of curling to flap edges. Boards with only small spots of fading to lower edges. Page interiors fresh, supple besides a bit of rubbing to page facing front free endpaper. Binding sound. Overall very good condition. "Explores the Irish architectural tradition from its beginnings in remote prehistory, through the Celtic and Medieval era to the complex Renaissance and modern world. In presenting the common buildings (plain houses, churches, mills, etc.) as types rather than as isolated phenomena, it creates a framework for discussing Irish country architecture as something which is both local to Ireland and yet firmly located within the mainstream of European culture. An excellent guide to buildings of the Irish countryside as well as a sourcebook for architects." Rare and lovely. Seller Inventory # ABE-1683496417539
