Item description from seller

First edition, subsequent impression with number line '3 5 7 9 10 8 6 4'. SIGNED, DATED AND INSCRIBED BY THE AUTHOR, IN BLACK PEN ON TITLE PAGE 'My very best wishes for my friend Kate with love Freddie Knoller 1/10/2009'. Some minuscule edge wear to top and bottom of covers and spine, spine uncreased, price on back cover (£7.99), no other inscriptions, internally clean tight and square, overall a vg++ copy, looks unread. 271pp. 'I felt ashamed that my mind was working against my friends in this way, but I also knew that in order to survive it was necessary to think like the Nazi conquerors among whom I lived, to remove myself as far as possible from the people they hated, in fact, to remove myself from myself.' But his luck ran out, and Freddie was soon on the run again before he fell victim to a friend's betrayal that saw him transported straight to Auschwitz. Scarce signed.…
