First Edition. Hardcover. Joseph Hergesheimer (1880-1954) was an American writer known for his naturalistic novels of decadent life amongst the very wealthy. He published over a dozen novels and several collections of short stories between 1914 and 1934. This is one of his later novels, partially published in 1929, but this limited edition by Knopf is stated to be a first edition. The frontispiece states "of the first edition of the Limestone Tree, Two hundred twenty-five copies have been printed on Borzoi rag paper, numbered from 1 to 225, each copy signed by the author. This is number 131." 8vo. Blue cloth-covered boards. Spine has sunned to a brown color. Title in silver to front cover and spine. No Dust jacket. Pristine interior. 386 pages. Literature. LIT912141.
