490pp. Octavo [24 cm] Blue pebbled buckram with the title gilt stamped on the front board and backstrip. Very good/Very good. Jacket shows minor nicking and chipping to extremities. Former owner s lengthy gift inscription in ink on the front pastedown. Signed by the author on the front free endsheet, who was also the subject's son. Joseph F. Smith (1838-1918) was the sixth President of the LDS Church and the son of Hyrum Smith. In 1866 he was ordained an Apostle and called to the First Presidency as a counselor to Brigham Young. After serving as a counselor to four Church Presidents, Smith was sustained as President of the Church in 1901. Joseph Fielding Smith Jr. (1876-1972) served as the tenth president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from 1970 until his death in 1972. He was the son of former church president Joseph F. Smith and the great-nephew of Church founder Joseph Smith.
