While working for both the Bank of Scotland and Ben Line Streamers, he wrote biographies on obscure historical figures such as Thomas Coryate. Coryate introduced table forks and the word 'umbrella' to England, travelling across Europe and Asia in the Jacobean period. In the publisher's original cloth, in the original unclipped dust wrapper.
