Item description from seller

402 pp. , x. NAP. Contains essays on Erasmus, Jonathan Swift, Alexander Pope, Voltaire, Benjamin Franklin, Dostoevsky, Ancient Greeks, William Hogarth; Index, pp. 381-402. Black cloth with brilliant gilt lettering on spine; brown endpapers. Light orange dustwrapper not price-clipped ($8.50) with author name lettering in white across upper front cover, just above title lettering in large brown letters, covering lower two-thirds front cover. Spine faded from light orange to white (all lettering in brown still sharp and distinct, eminently readable); tiny rubbing wear at only front cover right corners; Small triangular piece missing at rear cover lower left corner: long in Gaylord mylar cover. Dustwrapper did its job: book looks essentially As New, but for slight, very bottom edge rubbing under dustwrapper near gutter of rear cover top right and front cover bottom left with thinnest of rubbing at spine ends and corners. Flatsigned by author on half-title page with previous owner blind-stamp at bottom right title page, that of Lewis H.Weinstein (from online Encyclopedia): "WEINSTEIN, LEWIS H. (19051996), U.S. attorney and communal leader. Weinstein, born in Arany, Lithuania, was taken to the United States as an infant and grew up in Portland, Maine. He received his law degree from Harvard Law School in 1930. He was admitted to the Massachusetts bar and practiced law. During World War ii he served in the army, in 1944 on General Eisenhower's staff as liaison to General Charles de Gaulle, and in 1945 as a lieutenant colonel and chief of the liaison section in the European Theater of Operation. He was among the Allied troops that took part in the liberation of the concentration camp prisoners at the end of the Holocaust. Weinstein returned to a Boston law practice and was active in local, state, and national bar associations.".…
