His book follows the very best tradition of the Northern writings and deservedly both by accomplishment and presentation takes its place with the classics of HXXXX Hanbury, Simpson, Pike et al. ****** Of further note: in the summer of 1938 I travelled by canoe and barge from Ile a-la-Crosse Sak. to Great Bear Lake. On my return in crossing Great Slave Lake I found as a fellow traveller, George Douglas, the author of this book. We had many pleasant hours together and the inevitable game of chess. Later, when I was camped at Ft. Smith we continued this pleasant friendship. Douglas, though now a white-haired man of over sixty had pursed prospecting activities on the south and east shores of Slave Lake that summer. He is a remarkable gentleman.
