First printing of the second book of one of one of the most beloved of American poets, who died of a heart attack at age 55. who went on to win -- six years after publication of this book -- a Pulitzer Prize and two National Book Awards for Poetry. This book contains a number of poems inspired by Roethke's memories as a boy working in his parent's floral business. in Saginaw, Michigan. Later, he wrote: "The greenhouse "is my symbol for the whole of life, a womb, a heaven-on-earth.". A wee bit of shelfwear to the book itself, light rubbing to extremities. Dustjacket (with $2.50 price intact) shows long missing strip, no more than 1" high, across the top of the rear panel, across spine, and a third of the way across the top of the front panel. 1/2".
