1st Edition, 8vo (21.5cm), 150pp, frontispiece illustration of the 'Gladys', seven other plates and a fine 'Sketch Map' of the west coast of Scotland by 'the Pilot'. Full calf binding, marbled endpapers, all edges gilt. Some wear to edges of the leather. Splitting to the head and tail of both joints, but binding secure. Curiously the lower spine label is lettered in blind. Generally clean internally but there are a few spots around the plate by 'L Holst' and a little staining to the edge of that plate. Some pencil marks and a correction to an error in one of the illustration titles. A few light smudges. A good copy of a very rare work (presumably privately printed) of a rather whimsical, often surreal, steamboat log. Most of the excellent illustrations are by H. M. Cook who appears in the 'List of Hands' as 'Vanderdecken, called for short The Smudger'. The account covers three separate voyages up the West Coast and in the Outer Hebrides, including visits to Skye, Stornoway (Isle of Lewis) and Loch Skiport (South Uist). There are poetic contributions signed by various crew members, but the writer(s) of the main entries are not stated. Library Hub returns only two copies in institutions: NLS and University of Strathclyde. Seller Inventory # 1543
