Quarto (264 x 198 mm), 124-[12] pp. burgundy morocco jansenist binding, smooth spine, dove suede lining and endpapers, gilt head, covers and spine preserved; slipcase (J.P. Miguet). First edition of the second book illustrated by Salvador Dalí, with an original etching on the frontispiece, in a paranoid-critical vein, and one of his most famous engravings. One of 100 copies on Hollande van Gelder paper, this one unjustified, the only edition after 3 Chine and 13 Japon to feature Dali's etching. INSCRIBED BY BRETON AND ELUARD TO BUNUEL : "[Copy of Luis Buñuel, He smiled, delighted that he could be considered one of the greatest living directors of conscience. His friends Paul Éluard André Breton]". His friends Paul Éluard André Breton". Followed, in blue ink, by an autograph ex-dono from Luis Buñuel to his co-writer Jean-Claude Carrière: "Transmito à Jean-Claude. L. B." It was with Jean-Claude Carrière that Buñuel, in his last films, returned to surrealism. In a famous scene from La Voie lactée, a priest standing behind a closed door explains the principle of the immaculate conception to two bedridden lovers. Perfect binding by Miguet.
