Item description from seller

Small 4to. [4]p. Printed in fraktur and roman type. Woodcut ornamental title vignette. Royal decree dated 19 June 1794 prohibiting the so-called Swedish coffee and any other concoction which by smell, taste, or preparation resembles coffee. The reason for this measure was to avoid smuggled coffee being sold as a surrogate in order to evade import duty, as government officials were evidently not sufficiently experienced to detect the difference. The decree is signed with the printed names of Baron Johan Liljencrants, president of the Swedish Chamber of Commerce and a number of other officials. Hünersdorff, 'Coffee: A Bibliography', p1453.
